The Camera Obscura sits within a distinctive mid-century modern structure in Palisades Park, perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Built in 1955 on city-owned land, the low-slung building features original stone detailing, angled rooflines, and wide overhangs that frame sweeping coastal views. Its compact footprint was designed specifically to house the historic, rotating camera obscura device, which projects live images of the beach onto a viewing table inside.
